The funny thing about chasing your dreams is they usually require you to do something you normally wouldn’t—something a little out of your comfort zone. They require a confidence and determination that says, “whatever it takes, I’m all in.” Because, well if they didn’t—they wouldn’t be a dream right? Kaitlyn Hoever knew this; and she also knew it was up to her to turn her dreams into reality. Of course if you know Kaitlyn, you’ve probably been inspired, loved on, or motivated by her in some way.
So we interviewed Ms. Hoever to see how she does it; to see what it takes to be a shining light, no matter the circumstances.
Tell us about yourself.
Well, I'm Kaitlyn! Hi! I'm 33, single, a Christ follower, and a really fun person! I'm currently living life between Nashville and the Jersey Shore! I am a dreamer, a doer, and an all around girly-girl. I love music, fashion, social media-scrolling, and the beach. I can't live without coffee and I put on the best concerts in my car—with the windows rolled up.
When did you start LuLaRoe?
I always forget...no joke. I THINK May 2015...
What has LuLaRoe helped you achieve?
Confidence. I never thought I'd work for myself. I just didn't think that was something possible, mostly because of fear. It opened my eyes to a whole world of earning your own living without a paycheck.
What’s one of your favorite things about LuLaRoe?
The ability to have a team, and to work with other women. I love that I am never alone. I love that I can inspire others, push others to do what they didn't believe they could—while also having someone to call when I'm having a bad day or need help. I love that I never feel like I’m in this by myself.
What event has shaped your life the most?
Moving to Nashville for 9 months. I didn't know a single person, I didn't know why I was going, and I didn't know I could afford to go. I packed my truck with a suitcase and my LuLaRoe. I then drove to Nashville, signed a lease, and lived there for 9 months—learning SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF. I got closer to God, made new friends, and learned some priceless lessons in faith, finances, and personal struggles. It was the most amazing blessing. I truly believe God brought me there; LuLaRoe gave me the means. And the fact that I actually did it...that's the crazy part! It was SO scary! Talk about overcoming fear; anyone who has the chance in life to leave everything they know, for something completely unfamiliar—PLEASE DO IT!
Walk me through a typical day in your business.
I wake up between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., I journal, and I drink celery juice. I pretty much look like I just woke up for a good 2 hours into my day. I have an assistant, a friend who lost a job; I’m able to help her a little financially while she finds a new job, which is great! She comes from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. I usually do "computer work" while she packs, ships, and takes photos of my inventory. We watch True Crime documentaries, or look up things like "How old was Priscilla when she married Elvis?". Currently, we're watching the entire series of Gossip Girl, because I never saw it.
At 12:30 p.m., I generally spend 30 minutes setting up for that evening's activities—generally live sales. I go live about 5x a week. From 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. is my usual time for the gym, naps, and cleaning. I'm currently cleaning out my entire house. It's very exciting! Then around 7:00 p.m., I start getting ready to go live from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. I go live, invoice, clean, etc.
I generally like to be in bed by 11:00 p.m. I’m more of a night person than morning person, so I’m working on being IN BED and ASLEEP before midnight. However, I have been known to Google things like "How tall is Jesus?" at 3:00 a.m. On Saturdays, I do a morning live at 10:00 a.m., as well as a pre-scheduled email blast in the afternoon. But for the most part, from Friday at 12:00 p.m. to Monday morning, I work very little. I don't work at all on Sundays.
Share one of your favorite memories you have from working your business.
Laughing. The time soda came out of my nose on a live video. Or the time I was changing my shirt so someone could see how it would look on, and there was a mirror and everyone saw me! But I didn't know until I came back on screen. Luckily my rack of clothes covered any unmentionables! I love meeting my customers and other Retailers in person too!
What does the future look like for you?
Truly happy. I want to build a business that I can pass on, a legacy. I'd love to leave the earth a little bit better because I was on it.
What advice would you give yourself when you were first starting out as an entrepreneur?
Learn. Make mistakes—the more you fail, the better you will be. Try everything. EVERYTHING. Don't compromise your morals. Be proud of EVERYTHING you do, it all has your name on it. When you become an entrepreneur—your face is your brand, don't forget that. Again, learn. Educate yourself as much as you can!
Is there anything else you'd like to share with those reading this?
Whatever you want is inside you. If you don't believe that, no one else will. I have been called crazy more times than I care to count, but I KNOW who I am, and I KNOW I can do things—whatever they are. Times get hard, and I start to doubt; but then I remember, if I want it...there's NOTHING that is going to stop me from doing it. And the same is true for you. NOTHING has to stop you from doing anything you want!
WHO IS YOUR HERO AND WHY?
...well this is awkward. I'm going to say myself. As a 33 year old single woman, I kind of learned to be my own hero. I've learned to save myself time and time again, and to believe in myself, and to have confidence in the fact that I can do anything. But also, I am constantly very inspired by everyday people, doing everyday life; moms raising businesses and babies, dad's working hard to provide. And absolutely men & women who fight for our freedoms and keep us safe everyday—those are real heroes, I could never, ever be as brave as them.
WHAT THREE WORDS DO YOU FEEL DESCRIBE YOU THE BEST?
Loyal, Sparkly, and Exuberant
WHAT HAS BEEN INSPIRING YOU LATELY?
Building better relationships and being financially responsible. Those two things have inspired most of my life decisions and day-to-day life the last few months.
WHAT ARE YOU READING RIGHT NOW?
Text Messages. HAHA j/k j/k. I'm re-reading the Success Principles by Jack Canfield, because when I first started my business, it inspired me so much. Reading it four years into this business, different things are jumping out to me and I'm re-inspired in a different, more mature way.
WHAT MAKES YOU THE MOST HAPPY?
When I feel inspired and like there is adventure and opportunity in front of me. I am the least happy when I feel "stuck." Also, the beach.
WHAT SHOWS ARE YOU WATCHING ON NETFLIX?
FRIENDS! I’ve never watched it before! I'm on season 5, start to finish! I've never been a TV person, so I figured it was about time. It got pretty embarrassing to see peoples faces every time someone makes a 'Friends' reference, and I have no clue what they're talking about! haha
IF YOU COULD BE AN ANIMAL, WHAT ANIMAL WOULD YOU BE AND WHY? (Can't say you are a dog....Just sayin)
So, I had no clue what to write, so I cheated and asked my downline. They agreed on a Lion—because they said I'm fierce and I'm very protective of the people I love. But my best friend said a Poodle, "because they appear elegant, fancy and put together—like they're meant for high tea—but they are actually working dogs. They are great dogs for hunting, and all their fluff and fanciness serves an integral purpose to their job. So you are fancy and put together, but ridiculously hard working. And you make hard work look freaking fabulous." Also, I have really nice friends!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CANDY BAR?
I'm not a sugar person...but buffalo chicken anything...that's where it's at!
WHAT KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT?
Googling random questions at 2am like, "How tall was Jesus?" and "What's the longest word in the English language?". Haha but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with really good business ideas—I call these "God Ideas"; because I don't know where they came from, and they're always really good. I got a notebook next to my bed for them, because I never remember them in the morning.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO FILL YOUR CUP?
Travel. I like to explore and go on adventures. A lot of times I travel alone. I love finding cool new places, and quiet spots where I can get in my own head—reconnect with myself and God.
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY IN LIFE?
If you can't fix it or change it—deal with it in the most positive way possible and move on. No sense in getting all upset over something that already happened and that you can't change. Also, don't get all worried about something that hasn't even happened yet! Even if the worst comes true, which some times that's reality, just deal with it then. Being worried all that time before things happen does nothing to effect the outcome, & just leaves your personal energy so negative.
IF YOU COULD MAKE ONE CHANGE THAT WOULD HAVE THE MOST LONG LASTING IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Learning to be confident at a younger age. I spent so much of my life hating the way I looked, or thinking I wasn't good enough—those feelings still creep in now and again. Maybe learning confidence at a younger age would make it easier as an adult. For me, confidence isn't natural—it's a daily choice.
WITHOUT THINKING TO HARD, WHAT ARE 5 THINGS YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Jesus, lipstick, music, my people, working out...I feel like I forgot some pretty important things.
WHAT MUSICIAN, BAND, OR ALBUM, ARE YOU LISTENING TO THE MOST RIGHT NOW?
I usually play the Greatest Showman and A Star Is Born soundtracks at least once in their entirety, everyday.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN? HOBBIES? FAMILY ACTIVITIES?
I just started an adult tap dancing class! I loved dancing growing up and I'm stoked to be getting back into it! I go to the gym everyday. I love being creative. I love getting together with other women in business to "talk shop"—shoot ideas, spark dreams; even if it's just over coffee, I always leave feeling inspired.
WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEAVE WITH THOSE READING THIS?
Nobody can tell you who you are, what you are meant for, and what you believe in. Every day is a brand new chance to dream bigger, work harder, or sometimes it's a new chance to work less. You can never mess your life up too much, or be too far gone to truly ruin what you were made for. Every day is a new chance to get back on track. Only you can decide how each day will end.
